New Honorary Professor

Prof. Dr. Jens Upmeyer receives his certificate of appointment from Prof. Dr. Volker Epping.

The Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodetic Science congratulates Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jens Upmeyer on his appointment as honorary professor. On 9 February 2026, he received his certificate of appointment from Prof. Dr. Volker Epping, President of Leibniz University Hannover. Since 2006, Prof. Upmeyer has regularly given lectures on fire protection for the study programmes in civil engineering.

Prof. Upmeyer is managing partner and test engineer at Hagen Ingenieurgesellschaft für Brandschutz mbH. In 2001, he obtained his doctorate in structural fire protection from the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodetic Science. With this honorary professorship, the faculty and university are recognising Upmeyer's many years of commitment to teaching and his scientific contributions. 

An honorary professorship at Leibniz University can be awarded by the Presidium upon recommendation by a faculty and with the approval of the Senate. Appointees must have a proven academic record and be well suited to contribute to Leibniz University Hannover’s work. They are required to have taught for at least 10 semesters at universities and cannot be members of Leibniz University Hannover.
