Welcome to the Faculty: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Fadi Aldakheel

The Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodetic Science warmly welcomes Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Fadi Aldakheel, who joined the Institute of Mechanics and Computational Mechanics as Professor of High Performance Computing in Mechanics in April 2023.

Most recently, Prof. Aldakheel was Chief-Engineer/Group-Leader at the Institute for Continuum Mechanics at Leibniz Universität Hannover and Associate Professor (Honorary) at the Zienkiewicz Centre for Computational Engineering at Swansea University, UK.

After studying engineering in Aleppo, Fadi Aldakheel initially worked at Alfurat University in Syria before moving to the Institute of Applied Mechanics at the University of Stuttgart for the master and Ph.D. studies and then the postdoc period. There he was course director for the international master's programme "Computational Mechanics of Materials and Structures" (COMMAS) as well as local director for the excellence programme "Erasmus Mundus Master of Science in Computational Mechanics".

"My research interests are driven by the investigation and development of new methods, processes and technologies that are applicable to engineering problems
with complex material behaviour of solids," summarises Fadi Aldakheel. These include mathematically precise formulations of theoretical and computational models with a focus on continuum physics and materials theory, the construction of advanced multiscale techniques, the development of variational methods, and robust and efficient numerical implementations.

In teaching, Fadi Aldakheel initiated the module "Machine Learning for Material and Structural Mechanics I" this summer semester and he will take over the modules "Construction Mechanics A", "Construction Mechanics B" and "Numerical Mechanics" from the winter semester 2023/24. "Together with Prof. Nackenhorst, I would like to work on improving the teaching concepts within the framework of the innovative teaching goals of Leibniz University Hannover," says Fadi Aldakheel. "Close cooperation with the Centre for Quality Enhancement in Studies and Teaching (ZQS) on key competencies and e-learning is necessary for this."
