Recognition of credits and examination results earned at other institutions

If you have started studying at another university, have studied abroad or want to change your subject within Leibniz Universität Hannover, you can, under certain conditions, have credits and examination results recognised for your studies at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geodesy. We have compiled the procedures for you here. We recommend that you have a consultation before you make an application.

Assessment and transfer of credits and examination results for changing course or university

Teaching Unit Civil Engineering

  1. First you enrol for the desired course of study.
  2. To prepare for the recognition procedure, we recommend that you fill out the Excel table. For this purpose, you must compare the content of the modules to be recognised with the local modules offered (see also the information sheet "Recognition").
  3. Using the table and all the necessary documents from the previous degree programme (transcript of records or certificates and grade sheet, module descriptions of the modules concerned, other evidence), you make an appointment with the Accreditation Officer. You should submit any necessary documents in advance (preferably by e-mail) so that they can be checked before the appointment. The departmental student advisors may be involved in the process.
  4. The Accreditation Officer will work out an application for recognition with you, which will be submitted to the Examination Committee for examination.
  5. You will receive a notification of the decision.
  6. The decision will be forwarded to the Examination Office (Akademisches Prüfungsamt). There, the credits are fed into the system accordingly.

  1. The application for a higher semester is made during course of applying for the degree programme.
  2. Before enrolment, the Accreditation Officer makes an assessment recommendation using a form.
  3. For this you make an appointment with the Accreditation Officer. Necessary documents (Transcript of Records or certificates and transcript of grades, module descriptions of the relevant modules, other evidence) should be submitted in advance (preferably by e-mail) so that they can be examined before the appointment.  The departmental student advisors may be involved in the process.
  4. The Accreditation Officer will prepare an application for recognition, which will be submitted to the Examination Committee for approval.

Recognition of credits earned abroad

  1. In the course of planning your stay abroad, keep communicating with your coordinator and the Accreditation Officer. For this purpose, please submit the modules you plan abroad with suggestions for local recognition and/or allocation of areas of competence in advance when making an appointment request.
  2. Teaching unit Civil Engineering: A Learning Agreement will be discussed and completed with the Accreditation Officer. This agreement specifies which modules you wish to take abroad and how they are to be credited. This is submitted to the Examination Board for approval (see also the information sheet "Recognition" and the information sheet "Stay abroad").
Teaching unit Geodesy and Geoinformatics: A Learning Agreement will be discussed and completed with the accreditation officer. This agreement specifies which modules you wish to take abroad and how they are to be credited. This will be determined in consultation with the person responsible for the module.
  3. During the stay abroad, you should discuss changes in the module allocation with the Recognition Officer to ensure guaranteed crediting and to adjust the Learning Agreement. Collect evidence of academic and examination achievements.
  4. When you return to the Leibniz University, submit the transcript of records to the Accreditation Officer.
  5. You will receive a notification of the decision.
  6. The decision will be forwarded to the Examination Office (Akademisches Prüfungsamt). There, the benefits are fed accordingly into the system.

Recognition of professional qualifications and skills acquired outside the university

  1. In principle, recognition of professional qualifications and skills acquired outside of the university is possible. In each individual case it will be assessed whether and which competences are worthy of recognition.
  2. Recognition takes place at the start of the degree programme in coordination with the Accreditation Officer.
  3. Please make an appointment with the Accreditation Officer. Submit the necessary documents (certificates and other evidence, e.g. job descriptions) and suggestions for recognition in advance (preferably by e-mail) so that they can be checked before the appointment.
